We can all appreciate how beautiful the Autumn season is. Sure, the days do get shorter and the temperature does gets colder, but seeing the leaves on the trees go from greens to rich golds and vibrant reds is a spectacular natural phenomenon!
Well, it seems one artist has decided to collaborate with the season directly, scrapping the blank white canvas in favour of the fantastic hues found on the fallen leaves scattered across streets and woodlands at this time of year.
Bristol-based artist Dandala paints mandalas and geometric patterns straight onto Autumn leaves.

According to the artist, the process begins whilst spending time in nature. While walking around the wilderness, a certain fallen leaf will catch your eye.

Collected leaves are then washed, pressed, and ready for painting on. Each leaf is unique, and so is each mandala.

Making art in this way can be an opportunity to connect with nature, celebrating the beauty of natural forms.

In Autumn, soaking up the variety of colours on display as well as tuning in with the fragility of life.

By uniting natural forms with geometric structures, it is as if a hidden mathematical formula is revealed on each leaf.

The artist describes working with the cycle of seasons, in particular with Autumn, as honouring the cycle of impermanence, reminding us of the inextricable link between life and death, growth and decay.

After painting, the leaves may be re-pressed, or they may return to the paths and walkways which they came from.
