Artist Becca Howe's drawings often get mistaken for digital paintings, but that is what makes them interesting. She uses her rendering style to draw attention to the landscapes that she loves to draw. In her "Roadtrip" series, she explores the way that people experience landscapes in the digital age.
The famous landscape paintings of old were praised for their naturalism and their ability to capture the realism of the unexplored world. In the digital age, photographs are edited and manipulated in order to "appeal to more of an audience." In this series of colored pencil drawings, Howe takes editing to the extreme, crafting landscapes that seem almost alien-esque in their saturation and color choices.
The inspiration for this series comes from a variety of landscape photos that she took while going on road trips across the United States. She is passionate about the US National Park System and draws directly from her time visiting different parks throughout different road trips.
