Have you ever imagined yourself as a monkey, troll or even an Avocado? Well, this AI can help you with that. According to Ashot Gabrelyanov at Hackernoon, a team of 20 engineers and art designers built a machine learning technology that morphs human faces with animated characters.

The process starts by building a 3D mesh of the user’s head from a selfie shot.

Then 3 other neural networks master the personalization. The first one draws eyebrows, the second detects and matches eye color.

The third neural network detects and draws glasses if a person is wearing them.

Only the restricted area of a character is morphed because humans and animals have very different face topologies. Creating the look-alike characters, developers wanted to avoid giving them a creepy look.

Here’s what the avatar would look like if the whole face was morphed.

Developers decided to implement this technology in their mobile app Chudo. It is a messenger with personalized avatars.

I installed it and morphed celebrities with Chudo's characters. Here are the results:

Margot Robbie's bunny

Chiwetel Ejiofor's koala

PewDiePie's troll

Kendall Jenner's avocado

Dwayne Johnson's onion

Mark Wahlberg's frog

Daniel Dae Kim's french bulldog

Katy Perry's dragon

Jake Paul's labrador retriever

Jared Leto's eagle
