The Arctic fox is Icelands only native land mammal, surviving the harsh arctic winters all alone until the vikings arrived just over 1000 years ago.
The Arctic Fox Centre was established in 2007 to be a den for the collection and furthuring of knowledge about these fascinating and hardy creatures.
Since 2008 we have been monitoring the wild Arctic fox populations on the Hornstrandir Nature Reserve in Icelands Westfjords, a remote and uninhabited peninsula known as the kingdom of the Arctic fox. Last summer we were lucky to be joined by Phil Garcia and Madelin Avantin a couple from France with a passion for photography and nature. During their week long time at our research camp they documented the foxes we are researching and here are a few of their stunning results!
