A family pet (senior larger dog)loved for many years and very much a huge part of a family, is having hip problems that they have been treating as it has been presenting. This pet is so loved but today he couldn't get up the steps and needed to be lifted up them.Does anyone have any heartfelt advice for helping the family (that includes their dog)in their pain of having to be faced with making such a hard decision?

Hugs work well. Tell them that it was the right thing to do. Favorite foods always come to mind.
