There’s a Brazilian character making its presence on social media GIFs. His name is "Suadinho", created by the artist André Gola, he’s interacting with the stories of thousands of users all over the world, on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, MSN, Whatsapp and even on Tinder, the dating app. The character stickers already add up over 300 million views on GIPHY and are available for anyone who wants to illustrate their stories and conversations with them. Now whoever bumps into this charismatic character will know who his creator is.
But Suadinho is not only on the digital media platform. In São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, New York, London, Barcelona and Moscow among other cities, he’s on outdoor murals alongside works of arts by distinguished artists on the main art streets worldwide.
On Rivington Street in London, for example, an entertaining series called "Thoughts" shares the space with artworks from artists like Banksy, Thierry Noir, Stik and Ben Eine.
Still in London, in a Council Estate near Kilburn Station, a ramp in the middle of the community conveys a humorous message so that young people do not lose their minds.
Suadinho has also turned into ephemeral art as he’s spread among trash bags along Manhattan Island and Brooklyn. Today we just have some photos left of the "Trash Man" that has probably lived one day only.
In Bushwick, Brooklyn, Gola has created a simple and humorous visual action, playing with two windows grids on a street with huge graffiti walls.
Suadinho has also arrived in the bustling neighborhood of Wynwood, Miami, where he ventures on some climbing over the social media icons, artwork which Gola called "Social Climbing."
Already in Europe, in the quiet English town of Norwich, pedestrians are taken by surprise by a giant watching the street from a typical house of the area.
In Barcelona, on one of the busiest avenues in the Spanish city, Gola’s character gives a message to cell phone obsessives, drawn in a newstand in Las Ramblas.
Recently Gola has been to Moscow where he created an action on a staircase and a window, in the cool region of Flacon: a two-story house turned into a funny Monster that swallows his character.
In Brazil, Gola has artworks in some neighborhoods. In Chácara Santo Antonio, São Paulo, where he was born, lives and works, Suadinho is drawn in four walls - "Peace Street", "Rowing", "Guys” and" and “Sad Clown”.
Suadinho’s trip began during the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, with the encouragement of the cultural producer Pagu. On the Olympic Boulevard, next to the artwork of the French artist JR, the Brazilian artist Rita Wainer and next to the giant mural of Eduardo Kobra, two of Gola’s characters seemed to be watching that great event and the thousands of people that walk around the pier.
