Push Back In the U.S Ends With Success In The U.K
Online giant retailer Amazon did not have much luck in the U.S with the Federal Aviation Administration. But they have already found success in England. In the U.S, certain regulations such as only flying a drone within the line of sight of the operator have stopped the program. On the other hand, exceptions for Amazon’s drone program have been made in England by the aviation regulators. This has made it possible for the first commercial drone delivery to take place on December 7th, 2016.
First Commercial Drone Delivery
After three years of regulation obstacles, Amazon Prime Air was able to deliver its first package. The first order was delivered to Richard B. who lives on a two-story farmhouse about 2 miles away from an Amazon warehouse near Cambridge, U.K. The order included popcorn and a Fire TV video-streaming device. The total time of delivery was 13 minutes which is less than half the 30 minute time Amazon aims to do. Amazon Prime Air will allow the company to better control their delivery network and compete against UPS and FedEx Corp. The company announced that it will test another two deliveries near Cambridge and if successful expand to hundreds in the coming months. This might just be the beginning of a first world class drone delivery service.
