Great writers continue to influence today's art and even our way of life, in ways we are aware of, but also in ways we don't even notice. Starting from this idea, I made this project of AI images of old writers, put in a contemporary context, as if we would meet them today on the street (or at book fairs!).
But almost as important is the fact that for the oldest of them the existing images are totally unsatisfactory. Many only have portraits taken decades or hundreds of years after their death. Of course, AI images are not real images, just representations, like an actor representing one or another of the writers in a biopic. But I tried to integrate into the AI editing as many of the existing portraits as possible, as well as physical descriptions that have been preserved. Finally, most images were edited using classic photo editing techniques to remove outliers and increase similarity, where AI models proved to be limited.
The all project is published in various articles on wansait.com/tranzit. As video, the project is also available on Youtube (https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL-DB8WaUdG0BEeVuJfeMDyl6ePMTGq-kd).
Several dozen images are already published, and others will appear further, in the series, as photographs or video montages.
