Always happy, always excited to see people, Cruiser bounces up and down on the other side of the kennel gate, ready for another day. Only, it's another day at the Muskegon Humane Society in Muskegon, Michigan where the staff has been met by this big goofball's huge smile and unique, half-flopped ears almost everyday since March 8, 2017, when he was transferred from another shelter in Detroit, Michigan. That's right, at four-years-old, Cruiser has spent almost all of his life in an animal shelter looking for a home.
All he wants is a place and humans that he can call his. The staff has helped him so much with his training and tricks. His resume includes all the basics, like sit, stay, lay down, shake (with or without vocal commands) and extras like roll over, walk on a treadmill, wait, and so many more. His primary trainer has been AKC certified staff member Chelsie, but he is also a recent graduate of the Brooks Correctional Facility/MHS partnership training program, where he was a star student, like we knew he would be.
At the prison, he made a huge impact on his handlers, giving them a chance while serving their sentences, to give back to the community. When he left, they gave a little bio to share about him that we at the shelter already already knew; "I am a big lovable giant who has been raised in a shelter. I love to be hugged, snuggled and my adorable uniquely crooked ears rubbed. I am great with people! I love to play fetch and tug of war. I also like to run and explore."
Overlooked time and again because Cruiser is an active, dark- coated Pit Bull Mix, and needs an experienced home where he can be the only pet, with no kids and hopefully with a large fenced yard to roam and keep him safe. We know this is a tall order, but we also know what an AMAZING dog Cruiser is and that he is well worth the hard work to find that special home.
We don't want just anyone, we want someone who knows the commitment, time and love Cruiser will need.
