In a shocking report produced by the US Department of defense and released by the Washington Post known as the Afghanistan Papers, it has now been revealed that the $1 trillion dollars spent there & the thousands of lives lost there were essentially a waste. That instead of bringing freedom and prosperity the US created and supported a corrupt government, enflamed the drug war, strengthened the Taliban, & made life worse for many in Afghanistan.
The report shows that the US never had a concrete plan or purpose for the conflict and had way too many cooks in the kitchen trying to decide what was the entire goal of being there.
Worse yet, the report shows that US officials throughout the Pentagon, our military, government, and State Department lied time and again to the US people while making up fake statistics and quoting false numbers to justify being there.
While there are some positive consequences in Afghanistan, overall this is a giant waste of resources lives and spirit. I was a supporter of the Afghanistan conflict and I was wrong to do so. However, like most supportive Americans thought the "facts" being told to us were real and that our leaders wouldn't lie so brazenly.
I was wrong.
