When asked about his inspirations and the comic artists or comedians whose styles he admires, Alex responded: “Since I was a kid, I've been obsessed with shows like The Simpsons, Phineas and Ferb, and SpongeBob. I think you can definitely see their influence coming through in my comics.”
The cartoonist continued, saying: “A lot of my favorite cartoonists now are making awesome stuff for the New Yorker or putting out web comics. I'm a huge fan of Asher Perlman, Emily Flake, Beetlemoses, Josh Mecouch, Kate Isenberg, Tyson Cole, Lars Kenseth, and so many more. I could probably list a hundred, there's so many people doing cool stuff nowadays.
I'm also a huge SNL fan. Zach Kanin made a ton of incredible New Yorker cartoons before going on to write amazing stuff for SNL and I Think You Should Leave. Him and Will Forte both have a very unique and indescribable type of absurdism that I absolutely love.”
Lastly, Alex shared with us the details about one of his comics that stands out as his personal favorite: “I really like the Concrete Butt one. I think it tells a big ridiculous story and asks a lot of questions with very few words, which is kinda the goal for any comic. It's also very, very stupid, which is fun."
"I was really happy with how the colors and the scene layout turned out for that one too. It's always disappointing when the image on the screen doesn't quite live up to what you pictured in your head, so it's really awesome when it does.”
