A Tail of Two Dogs tells the story of these two contrasting lives in parallel. It is a brand new animated short film from Naturewatch Foundation, created with Fire Lily Studio and narrated by Paul Goodenough, founder of Rewriting Earth. The film shines a light on how animal testing shapes and shatters lives, showing how the process crushes the alternative every human and animal alike should be afforded: the possibility of a happy, fulfilled, life - free from harm.
Toby and ‘43’ are Beagles, known for their gentle, trusting nature and for being beloved, loyal companions. They are also among the most commonly used dog breeds in UK experiments - precisely because of these very traits.
The film premieres on Tuesday 12th at 9am. In just 82 seconds, the powerful animation delivers a devastatingly simple question: If we wouldn’t let this happen to our own pet, why would we let it happen to any dog or animal?

Meet Toby. He wakes up on the sofa excited to begin a new day, which inevitably starts off with belly rubs from a family who adore him. Cuddles, walks and treats are a regular part of his day-to-day. He will hopefully see one of his friends today at the park.
Now, meet ‘43’. He wakes up in a cage, and starts and ends every day the same way: alone. He has no name, no toys, no warm lap to curl up on, no friends to play with, and no family. ‘43’ is a laboratory beagle, bred for scientific research here in the UK. Anxiety, fear, and isolation define his day-to-day.
