A Rainbow Family

There are eight children in our family and when we were born, my mother "assigned" each of us a color to help keep our home organized and to help us sort our belongings. It kept arguments to a minimum and gave us a sense of individuality in such a large crowd.
We like to get together often, but our busy schedules often make it impossible for all of us to be together at once. We decided that it was time for us get together and make some memories! A Reunion!
So that's what we did...camping, swimming, boating, eating, laughing. It was a coordinated weekend of board games, family dinners, camp fires and family stories. Each family took a turn cooking, cleaning and setting up for meals.
This family reunion, held at our cabin on Buggs Island Lake in Virginia, brought all eight of the children, the grandchildren and the great-grandchildren together. Each family wore their "color" as we created our family rainbow. Mom and Dad wore multi color shirts of course...it was the magical! We didn't know that it would be the last reunion we had together.
We lost Dad to pancreatic cancer in 2012. We never saw it coming. He was the picture of health. He was our referee, our counselor, our anchor, our fire starter and story teller. Our rainbow faded for a while...a long while.
We now have new in-laws, new babies, new graduates and new memories and we will always be an ever expanding, ever vibrant Rainbow Family 🌈
