A Novel Idea: Artist Creates Dresses Out Of Romance Novels

When artist Carrie Ann Schumacher found a box of 50 discarded romance novels in 2011, she initially had no idea what she was going to do with them. However, she knew if she didn't take them, she would wake up at 3 am with a brilliant, life-changing flash of an idea, and kick herself for not having that box of books. So she threw them into the trunk of her car, where they resided for the next month.
Flash forward a month, and that idea was less of a brilliant flash and more of an uphill battle as Carrie decided to make dresses out of the pages of the novels. After a month of cutting, gluing, taping, and three attempts that Carrie ripped to shreds, "Harlequin" was born.
That initial box of 50 romance novels has long been used up, and in the past 6 years, Carrie has created over 25 dresses from the pages of romance novels. And while that initial idea wasn't a brilliant flash, it was life-changing.
