I’m a very busy person with work and family but on Saturday nights after work I enjoy a few cold ones. After a good rain here in the Southern coastal plains there is a lot of little critters that come out to say their little howdy’s usually a grass snake, a garden spider or even a few snails. It was very recently when this little guy started popping up on my patio and he’s been welcomed ever since. I began by placing little shallow pans of water for him to “swim” in but he would rather climb onto my bbq pit and stare at me often slow blinking and remaining very still. My little friend that I have called everything from froggy, Mr. jingles and finally the Captain as he just stares very proper and majestic as would a proper gentleman at the helm of a ship would. As my Saturday nights of libations would consist of music and some nice mesquite smoked bbq all the while the captain would be ever vigilant. so I began to have small conversations with him and eventually offer him a beer in jest until lo and behold one day he gently jumped onto my patio table and very slowly made his way across to my open beer…….have I crossed into the realm of Dr.Doolittle status??? In pure amazement I took this picture, the silent stare, the pure beauty and the thought of that beautiful creature climbing onto my last bottle of beer……eww that little bastard!!!! I mean it was my last beer and now it had gross frog cooties. I did enjoy a nice shot of whiskey while the captain, well he just sat there nursing my last beer (well, his now) and we enjoyed the smell of low and slow bbq and the night air.
