A streetside library that requires no registration and no fees... Small bookcases where students borrow books they want and leave books for other students to read....
At the beginning of 2022, this was a dream. But this dream found great support. Someone sponsored the construction of the bookshelves. Others donated books.
Today, there are 6 bookshelves at different points in Ankara, the capital of Turkey. The books placed in the regions where disadvantaged families live. Books are being read and shared by the children of the regions. The negative prejudices that @take.read.bring (@alokugetir in Turkish) libraries will be destroyed and books will not be taken back have all proved wrong. Books are being read and brought back by children.
Turkey faced a devastating earthquake on February 6, 2023. This earthquake drove many families away from their homes and children away from the schools. The campaign necessarily turned its direction to the earthquake zone. It will work to open libraries in the schools of tent cities until the wounds of the region are healed. The first of the earthquake zone libraries has already found its place. Bookshelve met with children in Adıyaman.
