If you didn't grow up in the 80's you might still have a fair idea of what it was like by watching Stranger Things on Netflix. Dungeons & Dragons was perhaps for those on Geek Level 10, but the coolest thing enjoyed by everyone was Video Games, be it Atari, Commodore or something else.
I cut my teeth on the now rather vintage Texas Instruments TI99/4A; playing games like Invaders and Tombstone City.
That computer also had programming abilities, and as a ten year old Swedish boy I spent countless hours writing programs in basic, aided by a dictionary and programmers guide in english. Imagine, with just a few hundred lines of code I could make noises and moving graphics - it was amazing!
Today I'm still making noises and graphics. The driving force behind my creativity is the same as when I was a boy, but now I have modern tools.
This video is a celebration of 80's gaming and computer culture. It encapsulates the feeling of awe and wonder present in every child. I used to pretend that the whole world hinged on me completing a game stage. I still do.
I'll forever be A Video Kid.
