I’m Ben Ouaniche, videographer and creator of the youtube channel “Macro Room”.
I'm 30 years old, live in Tel-Aviv, Israel.
The idea behind this video started in my mind about 3 years ago when slow motion cameras became more affordable but mainly - smaller in size.
This was a game changer from my point of view, now it was possible to move and change the camera point of view while filming very fast phenomenal in slow motion.
I contacted Graham from www.slomocamco.com and showed him my work on the Macro Room channel, he was very positive and agreed to a collaboration video in return for the camera.
After some research I found a creative engineer who was willing to jump on this project and build a high speed spinning rig for my custom needs.
Some info about the machine we built:
- 150 rpm at maximum speed
- 1.5 kilos camera weight + 400 grams 50mm lens
- Centrifugal force: ~ 80 kilos at maximum speed
Camera info:
- Model: fps4000 by www.slomocamco.com
- 950 fps
- Full HD 1920x1080
- DNG raw files sequence
- Recoding time limit - 1 minute, this allowed minimum weight without any long distance triggering.
The machine was all analog without any computer commands or time triggering so a lot of the shots required many takes and very precise manual control to time and align the camera view and action in the right way.
It was very challenging but also very fun and exciting project to create, its was my first time using high speed camera technology so there was a steep learning curve to be taken along side of discovering and finding the most interesting and creative subjects to film.
I’m pleased with the final result which took over 3.5 months to create, and I hope the audience will like it as well. stay tuned for more slow motion videos on the channel soon!
