“Success doesn't only bring nice things”. A lot could be said about thit statement by Martin V. from Slovakia who, thanks to his ingenuity, had to escape Slovakia to the UK.
It started with Martin's idea to make a mobile game. Even with obstacles in his way like living without Internet connection and hiding in an asylum house for mothers with children in danger. This would not deter him from his goal. He used to kill boredom on his old cell phone: "In the asylum house we don't have the Internet. When I'm not playing football, I go to download some games in the nearby restaurant where they have free WiFi. My phone is old, but at least it works. When I'm playing, I can at least forget for a while about the reasons why me and my mom are here, and that I get bullied in school. I don't have a lot of friends.
Martin, however, decided not to give up on his new dream despite his miserable living conditions. After sending his ideas to many developers, two months he had finally recieved a positive answer. The result was the game called Color Pin, which instantly surged to top of the charts of the Google Play Store and iTunes in the Czech and Slovak Republic where he was born.
It brought Martin the success he always dreamed of. Success like that is generally unheard of in asylum centers. The story took the media by storm and reached the biggest portals in the Czech republic and Slovakia. Martin suddenly found himself in the spotlight, including an appearance on the most watched TV channel in Slovakia. But what was most important is that his location be not revealed, because his family lives in an asylum center with covert status.
Above are just a few examples of the many media published articles with information released about the boys success, yet all with a consideration for discreetness for his situation. However, in one case discreetness was omitted, resulting in big problems for the boy and his mother.
Portal Cas.sk published information on the day of June 26th to “fans” of Martin and his game. The problem is that they've also revealed what they shouldn't have – Martin's temporary housing location. The text included not only the name of the city, but also a photo of the house and a rough description of its location.
According to some sources, Cas.sk was issued an order to pull the info down by the end of the day. The article is no longer on available, but by the time it had been pulled down it was already too late. What did it bring to Martin? Threats and envy.
“I'm not rich, but I'm better off. They say my game is popular, and I hope it will get played by even more people.
They say my game is popular, but it's free. I hope I will make some money and me and mom will be able to live elsewhere. We're poor now.“ explains Martin. “Everyone wanted to borrow some money, and when I said I didn't have any, they said that I lied because they read in the papers that I got rich. Someone called mom and threatened that something might happen to me if she wouldn't give them money. That's why we left, mom was very scared.“

We received the info about their current location from a family relative who doesn't want to be named. “They were sick of it. After two weeks of abuse, it was unbearable for them. I think they'd have been better off if the game had never been made,“ he concluded. He also showed us a message which Martin had sent from England: “I just wanted people to have fun. I'm sorry for what happened after, especially to my mom who I love and didn't want to hurt in this way.„
The family is now located in the UK, living with a relative and hoping that Color Pin will finally bring Martin some reward and not just hardships.
