“The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page," said St Augustine.
Nothing can become the pinch hitter of experience. Every place offers something sui generis to teach visitors and allows them to soak themselves in a true blue different world. By fits and starts, breaking out of your quotidian routine is the ideal way to gain a deep sense of satisfaction.
If you are in your salad days and want to be on the loose, fixing your gaze on the incredible wonders of India is the best thing you should be doing. And if you have already decided to do so, here’s a list of the wonders of India you shouldn’t miss out on.
All these are a must see, therefore, go through the list with a fine-tooth comb and enjoy the offbeat wonders of India.
1. The transparent Umngot River, the unexplored paradise
Have you ever dreamed of feasting your eyes on the boat floating in mid-air?
If your answer is yes, let me assure you that it’s not going to be a wild goose chase. Yes, that is how its and that is where the excitement begins. Umngot River is the place you should be lying your eyes on. Umngot is a River in India and is a place that gives a thumbs up to catch the glimpse of this breath-taking scene.
This river is so pristine pure that you can mark its bottom. Crystal clear water, on the other hand, gets everything set for an exciting sail over the river, whoa. And the best part is, due to the absolute clear water, it appears as if the boats are floating in the air right away.
Umngot River moves along a small town Dwaki, near the Bangladeshi border. Giving a glass like look from the upper surface, it’s an exceptional fishing spot for Indian and Bangladeshi fisherman.
2. Reverse Waterfall at Sinhagad
You might have heard about the underneath waterfalls, frozen waterfalls or hidden waterfalls but what if you get to see a reverse waterfall? Yes, this is a kind of experience is worth more than any sight could ever be. This can be spotted at Sinhagad fort in Pune district of Maharashtra. Absolutely unbelievable, isn’t it?
Reverse Waterfall or Upside Down Waterfall is generally created due to strapping winds not giving the go-ahead to water to fall down. So really, it’s an optical illusion: upside down waterfalls only pop up to be flowing in the reverse direction and that’s that, a true wonder of nature.
3. Barren Island Volcano
Now that is the place where your scream is going to make everyone around cover their ears. What if you happen to find yourself staring at an active volcano? Yeah, right, active! Vola. A visit to Barren Island can be a fascinating and eye-opener experience.
This 1.8 million years old island is situated at 135km north-east of Port Blair, in the Andaman Sea. The Volcano of this island first erupted back in 1787 followed by a fairly recent large-scale eruption around 150 years ago. The place is remote but can be accessed by live abroad ship.
And you will be meeting there nothing but water, water for miles. That said, the sea all over the Barren Island comes up as a site of rejuvenation for huge marine creatures like turtles, manta rays and reef sharks on their relocations.
4. Hide and Seek Beach
Also called Chandipur sea beach, the Hide & Seek beach is located 16km off the Balasore district railway station. The naked truth about this beach is that water here recedes betwixt 2-5 kilometres for the time of ebb tide and arrives back to seashore at the count of high tide. And this mysterious episode can be spotted daily, I mean, watching the sea fizzling out right in front of your eyes. Mother Nature playing tricks with you, isn’t it shocking?
This is a solitary beach on the planet where the deviation in low & high tides is super colossal and that’s what makes Chandipur Sea beach a bewildering place for tourists. The best thing about it is that it’s still hidden from the crowds.
5. The Cleanest Village of Asia, The God’s Own Garden
The mystic heaven, Mawlynnong in Meghalaya is the cleanest village of Asia. In which ways the people out there are up keeping this beautiful village? Community cleaning programs at uniform intervals, distinctive garbage disposal methods and strict ban on tobacco and plastic produce, all these things make this village as clean as the whistle. That’s all the people over here hold in high regard for.
You can visit this magnificent village any time of the year but the ideal time to make the most of it is monsoon. In the season of monsoon, this place and its neighbourhoods become luxuriant green presenting a picturesque scene. The village, with population of 500 inhabitants, is picture-perfect clean and that’s why it has gained the recognition as the “God’s own garden”.
6. The Milky Lake
The Gurudongmar Lake is located at the height of 17000 feet and it’s one of the highest lakes of the planet. This lake is called Milky Lake because water looks milky throughout the year and the eyeshot of the water meeting the mist is simply phenomenal.
7. The Hanging Pillar of Lepakshi Temple
Lepakshi temple is located in a small village in the Anantapur District of Andhra Pradesh. Out of 70 stone pillars in the temple, there is one that hangs from the ceiling. Yes, you got me right, this is the pillar which does not rest on the ground utterly. However, it was displaced
from its initial position when a British engineer pulled out all the stops to move the pillar in order to put on show of the secret of its backing.
8. Sea meets the River, Maravanthe Beach
This Beach is located in the Karnataka state around 50 kms off the Kundapur. One of the drop-dead gorgeous ticks to be captured in your memories is the sunset at Maravanthe Beach. On one side, you can spot the gentle waves of Arabian Sea at the shore of the Maravanthe Beach and on the other side, Souparnika River reaches out to the Beach. The perfect time to visit Maravanthe Beach is between the months of October and March.
Maravanthe beach is a hidden gem as far as the beach destinations are scrutinized. The thing that make the Maravanthe Beach an ideal place is that you can make your getaway into water here, unlike most of the beaches in the country.
9. The Floating Lake
How about standing on a land that floats on water? No, it’s not a movie scene which I’m talking about. Yeah, it’s possible and you can do that. Located 53kms far from Imphal, the Loktak Lake is the world’s only floating lake.
Thanks to the Keibul Lamjao National Park located at the south western part of the lake, the Lake becomes even more special. It’s the world’s only floating national park. The Loktak lake looks stippled with several small islands, these are not islands at all but only phumdis i.e. collection of floating heterogeneous masses of vegetation or soil.
10. The Green Meteor Lake
The Lonar Lake, located in the Buldhana District of Maharashtra, is an oval shaped meteor lake. It was nearly 50,000 years back in the pages when a meteorite collided with the surface of the earth, forming an oval shaped crater which is the third largest crater of the world. This saline soda lake is one of the most exciting offbeat places to visit. Lonar Lake is surrounded by lush green forests and a smattering of old temples and over the years, its colour turned green and that made things even more interesting.
So, what are you waiting for now? Get set, go!
